2017 Rating Revaluation – Timeline of Events

The next rating revaluation will become effective from 1st April 2017. Taking steps to prepare now can minimise liability and maximise the chances of significant savings.calendar

Ratepayers should be aware of the key stages between now and the publication of a new rating list on 1 April 2017. The timeline below gives details of these key stages, including how we can assist.

March 2016
New 2016/2017 rate bills will be issued, accompanied by information from the Valuation Office Agency. Ratepayers can register to receive information via e-mail regarding the draft rateable value, due October 2016.

October 2016
Draft rateable values will be published by the VOA.
We will review the draft valuations on your behalf for obvious factual errors and give budgetary figures.

January 2017
Draft rateable values will be published by the Scottish Assessor.
We will review the draft valuations on your behalf for obvious factual errors and give budgetary figures.

March 2017
Rate bills will be issued, incorporating the new rateable values. The actual rateable values may differ from the earlier published draft figures.
We will check the accuracy and validity of your rate bills.

1 April 2017
The new rating list is published. A review of your new rateable value can commence under the proposed “Check, Challenge, Appeal” process.
We will review the valuation breakdown and request a “check” of your assessment under the new rules, where appropriate. The outcome may determine whether a formal “challenge” can be recommended.

30 September 2017
The last date to lodge formal appeals in Scotland under the 6 month rule.
We will lodge appeals against assessments we consider to be inaccurate.
